Birth Doula Program

Ayla Birth is currently offering our Birth Doula program to women who qualify.  The program consists of:

Consultation
Ayla Birth will have up to three doulas meet with you to determine the best fit with your needs and personality.  Each doula will detail what services she can (and can't) provide to the you.  This is also the time when you will provide proof of qualification for the program.
 

Prenatal Visits (2-3)
The doula will meet with the you and discuss plans for the birth, as well as provide information on Oregon Birth Choices (hospital, natural birth, medicated birth, birth center, home birth, VBAC, cesarean section, water birth, etc...). The doula will also coordinate with your support team regarding transport to and from place of birth and may discuss housing and other pertinent information.  The doula can also also attend a prenatal visit with your doctor, midwife or other health care provider before the birth and discuss your expectations for the birth, as well  as go over common medical tests performed. 

Phone Support
The doula provides phone and e-mail support from the time you sign the contract until the last post-partum visit. 
 
Labor
The doula is "on call" from two weeks prior to the baby's due date until you go into labor.  The doula will be available 24 hours per day and will be able to meet you within 1.5 hours at all times.  During your labor the doula will be with you during your entire labor.  This means your doula will be with you no matter who comes on shift and how long your birth takes.  The doula will be with you until approximately one hour after the birth of your child for a normal, healthy delivery.  If there are complications,the doula will stay with you until the situation is stable.

Costs
Ayla Birth does not charge our clients.

It is important to understand the value of your doula's services.  The average fee for a Birth Doula in the Portland Metropolitan Area is $500.00, with Doulas certified in specific specialties such as Hypnobabies, Lamaze, Bradley Method, or Birthing From Within typically charging between $700.00 to $1,000.00 per client.
