IceBreakers!IceBreakers are way for Foster Parents and Parents to meet in a
neutral, respectful way to discuss their children and how to help them adjust to foster care. According to the DHS Child Welfare Procedure Manual, when Foster Parents and Parents are able to communicate, there are several positive outcomes: Children return home sooner, do better in school, have stablility in foster and feel more emotionally centered. Birth Parents feel less anxiety about who their children are living with, and feel valued in being asked to provide information about their children and families. Foster Parents are able to better care for the children in their care, experience less apprehenstion when dealing wtih Birth Parents and more confidence in the parenting plan. |
